Police investigating vandalism at Watsonville High School

An investigation is underway at Watsonville high School after vandals left thousands of dollars in damages at the school site.

Watsonville police said someone turned on an excavator behind the school’s gym and started bashing through walls of the snack shop and the basketball court.

Investigators believe the vandalism happened sometime over the weekend.

A construction crew on campus who reported the damage Monday morning.

“In talking to some of the representatives from the construction company, they believe that it had to be somebody who possibly had a key to the excavator and someone who had prior experience operating an excavator,” said Sergeant David Rodriguez with the Watsonville Police Department.

School officials estimate about $30,000 worth of damages.

No arrests have been made.
