Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Santa Cruz suffers major injuries

UPDATE: 11/10/15 6:16 a.m.Soquel Avenue at Cayuga Street in Santa Cruz reopened just before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday. Police are still investigating.

ORIGINAL STORY: Soquel Avenue at Cayuga Street in Santa Cruz remains closed as police investigate a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.

The accident was reported just before 5 p.m. Monday.

Police said a 25-year-old man suffered major injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Preliminary investigation indicates the 57-year-old driver of a Honda CRV struck the man in the crosswalk at Cayuga Street, police said.

The driver was not arrested or cited but has been cooperating with investigators.

Police said the cause of the accident has not been determined. Investigators are still examining evidence and gathering information.
