UPDATE: Teen shot and killed in Salinas identified
UPDATE 11/2/15 11:15 AM: Salinas police have identified the 16-year-old shot and killed Sunday as Juan Angel Perez.
Police say he attended Everett Alvarez High School and that they have never had any run-ins with him before.
Detectives are still working on leads, but are having a hard time getting people in the neighborhood to share information. Police say they have very little information on suspect descriptions.
Detectives do believe the suspects are involved in gangs.
Police are looking for three Hispanic males seen running away after the shooting.
ORIGINAL STORY:
An investigation is underway Monday morning, after a 16-year-old was shot and killed in East Salinas.
Police say it happened just before 9:00 p.m. Sunday on Sieber Avenue and Orchard Avenue.
The boy was riding his bike home, when two people approached him and shot him multiple times. The two were seen running away from the scene.
Crews tried to give the boy medical aid, but he died on scene.
Police do not know if this shooting is gang related. This is the 34th homicide in Salinas this year. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
