CHP investigating double-fatal crash in Watsonville area

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a double-fatal crash in the Watsonville area Sunday night.

The call came in just after 6 p.m. that a Ford Taurus and a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck were involved in a head-on collision on Holohan Road between Green Valley Road and East Lake Avenue, officers said.

The male passenger of the Taurus was pronounced dead at the scene while the male driver was pronounced dead at Watsonville Hospital, CHP said. Both of them are from Watsonville.

The driver of the pick-up, Erin Wakefield, of Boulder Creek, was eventually air-lifted to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas with major injuries, according to CHP. Officers said Wakefield had major injuries but is expected to survive. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

There was a hard road closure between East Lake and Green Valley on Holohan. CHP expects that to be open around 8:30 p.m.
