UPDATE: 16-year-old dies in Watsonville crash Monday morning

UPDATE 10/19/15 1:09 PM: A 16-year-old boy was killed in a crash on Harkins Slough Rd. in Watsonville just before 10:30 AM Monday, according to police.

Officers said a 15-year-old girl was also in the car and was taken to Natividad Medical Center for minor injuries.

Police said both teens were in a Volkswagen Jetta and clipped the back of a street sweeper, as it turned onto Harkins Slough Rd. from Ramsey Park.

The street sweeper driver was uninjured and officers said they aren’t sure if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Police expect to re-open the road by 2 PM.

PREVIOUS STORY: Watsonville police said officers are investigating a fatal accident on Harkins Slough Monday morning.

Harkin Slough between Ford Street and Oholone Parkway is closed as they investigate the crash. It’s not clear when the area will be reopened.

At this point, there is no word on the victim’s identity or how the crash took place. We’ll bring you updated information as soon as we get it.
