UPDATE: Man gunned down in Salinas Saturday night ID’d

UPDATE 10/26/15 10:47 a.m.: Salinas Police have identified the man gunned down Saturday night as 29-year-old Abelino Martinez Jr.

The shooting was reported in the area of Mendocino Drive and Colusa just before 10 p.m.

Police said Martinez suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing two males in dark clothing running from the scene.

Police said the shooting is gang-related.

This is Salinas’ 29th homicide this year, tying the city’s 2009 homicide record.

The call came in just before 10 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The area near the intersection has been block off as police are waiting for detectives to arrive.
