Update: Police identify, arrest Santa Cruz shooting suspect

Santa Cruz police say they identified and arrested 19-year-old Cristian Cruz for Tuesday shooting that sent one person to the hospital.

Cruz is in the Santa Cruz County jail and faces multiple charges including attempted murder and carrying a firearm. Police are not looking for any other suspects.

Santa Cruz police are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a shooting on the 800 block of Ocean Street just before 4:30 p.m.

Police said a 20-year-old Santa Cruz man was shot in the leg. He was transported to a Bay Area trauma center.

Police officers were able to detain a suspect after he ran through San Lorenzo Park.

The suspect’s name has not been released.

Police believe that shooting was “gang motivated.”

At this time, there are no other suspects being sought, police said.
