UPDATE: Dennis the Menace statue found in Florida, returned to Monterey
UPDATE 9/22/15 6:14 p.m.: After being reported missing for years, the Dennis the Menace statue was returned to Monterey Tuesday.
Monterey Police will work to make sure the statue actually belongs to the city. The statue is in the city’s corporate yard, just weeks after it was found in an Orlando, FL scrap metal yard.
Several questions were raised, after a children’s hospital in Orlando also claimed it’s Dennis the Menace statue went missing.
PREVIOUS STORY: A Dennis the Menace statue, stolen from Dennis the Menace Playground in Monterey in 2006, has been found in Orlando, Fl., according to the City of Monterey.
City leaders said the three and a half foot tall statue weighs 200 pounds and was valued at $25,000 to $30,000.
A $5,000 reward offered for the statue’s safe return will be awarded to Brothers Scrap Metal of Orlando, Fl. The statue was discovered by the scrap metal company August 22. City leaders said statue was scheduled to be melted down. The metal shop did an internet search and discovered the statue was reported missing.
The Monterey Police Department is working with the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office to return the statue to Monterey, where it will be placed back at the playground.
