Laureles Fire along Highway 68 fully contained at 95 acres
UPDATE 9/21/15 p.m.: The Laureles Fire that burned off Highway 68 and Laureles Grade is fully contained Monday night.
The fire burned 95 acres, according to Cal Fire.
UPDATE 9/19/15 7:10 a.m..: The Laureles Fire burning off Highway 68 and Laureles Grade is 95 percent contained at 95 acres, Cal Fire said.
All of Highway 68 is back open, according to the California Highway Patrol.
UPDATE 9/19/15 8:25 p.m.: Two homes were damaged in the Laureles Fire, firefighters said.
UPDATE 9/19/15 6:19 p.m.: Several homes in the Corral de Tierra community are being evacuated after two major wildfires sparked near Highway 68 and Carmel Valley, Cal Fire officials said.
Oxton Kennels, which is located on 400 River Road in Salinas, called News Channel 5 to say if any evacuees want to bring their pets by to keep them safe they have room.
The first fire started around 3:00 p.m. near Cachagua Road and Tassajara Road, officials said. This area is closer to South Monterey County.
The second fire sparked 30 minutes later off Highway 68 east. The flames jumped the highway and is burning approximately 100 acres near Laureles Grade.
Firefighters with the Monterey County Regional Fire District told News Channel 5 they believe a car with a chain dragging behind it sparked the flames near Highway 68. The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Several homes are threatened in the Corral de Tierra area, one is damaged, fireifghters said.
Additionally, there are a bunch of spot fires popping of throughout the Carmel Valley hills, officials said.
