ISC declines opportunity to manage Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

New management for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca had been put on hold after the International Speedway Corporation decided not to submit a proposal. Now race fans on the peninsula are seeing this as a sign of hope to keep the track management local.

“Scramps done a great job out there. They’ve done it for so many years they’re the ones that knows how to handle the race track out there,” said Bill Enders of Monterey Custom Motorcycles.

Scramp has run Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for more than 50 years. Enders said he and his shop have a lot of history with the track and it’s managers. County Supervisors said the move to change management started when SCRAMP fell behind on payments and track maintenance wasn’t up to par. That’s when the county said it started investigating ISC as a possible race track manager. Those talks are being put on hold for now. Monterey County officials said for now they will continue their month to month contract with SCRAMP until they can narrow down a more permanent company to run this track.

” I think this is a good idea. I suggested it before that the process was rather hurried and for the public’s sake we’d be better to have a more extended proposal process,” said County Supervisor, Dave Potter.

The popular stock car racing firm, I-S-C likes the idea and will consider submitting a proposal in the next six months.

“I want to see a company or a management firm come in that has the financial capabilities to manage the track that has the necessary capitol to give improvements to the track and some of the different maintenance repaired out there,” said Potter.

SCRAMP plans to submit a new proposal of their own. As for Enders, he said he’s pleased to see management stay local.
