Central Coast Republicans watch GOP debate
The top Republican candidates went head-to-headin the second Republican presidentialprimary debate Wednesday. Once again, billionaire Donald Trump took center stage, but this time he had competition.
“It seems to be the Bush and Trump show,” said Mike Lelieur with the Santa Cruz County Republican Party.
As the two candidates went back and forth, Lelieur said he hoped to hear more from the other candidates.
“I was noticing that when someone was talking they’d be split screen and showing Trump’s reaction to what’s going on. I thought that was kind of interesting. A lot of the candidates don’t get much time,” said Lelieur.
Lelieur, along with the Chair of the Santa Cruz County Republican Party, Susan Allen, caught more of the debate on their smart phones. That’s because they spent their night trying to build the Republican Party at the Santa Cruz County Fair.
“We’re a minority here in Santa Cruz County. It’s our opportunity to meet with our voters,” said Allen.
And local voters appeared to mirror the national polls. Lelieur and Allen set up a bean poll and Ben Carson and Donald Trump were in the lead.
“He’s speaking(about) a lot of things that are on the minds of a lot of pissed-off people, you know, no jobs, immigration, closed/open borders, he’s talking about a lot of things that people want to hear. But does he have a plan? I have yet to hear one,” said Lelieur.
