Local teacher killed in crash on Highway 156 Thursday night
UPDATE 9/11/15: The Carmel Unified School District has confirmed a middle school teacher was killed during a crash Thursday night on Highway 156 in Castroville.
The district said Nancy Fowler, a music teacher at Carmel Middle School since 2004, was killed.
District leaders said they plan to have counseling resources available for staff and students as they grieve.

According to CHP, it happened just before 10:00p.m. on Thursday night when a woman traveling eastbound in a 2003 Ford Focus veered off the roadway to the right shoulder. Her vehicle overturned and continued to move east before it collided into a guardrail.
The driver, identified as Nancy Fowler was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. According to CHP officers, they believe she may have been a teacher at Carmel Middle School.
It is unknown whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
