Fire crews battle flames at Natividad Creek Park in Salinas
Firefighters Salinas battled multiple fires at Natividad Creek Park in Salinas Tuesday afternoon.
Salinas Fire called for back up from firefighters outside the area to deal with dry conditions because they were concerned about flames spreading near the creek bed where there’s a lot of brush.
Crews said about 25 acres caught on fire but have since been contained.
A hand crew from the California Department of Forestry was called out to deal with thick brush where flames were spreading. Cal Fire crews also helped fight the fires.
Some road closures are still in effect including: Constitution and Boronda, Cottonwood and Rider and Boronda and Mesquite. There isn’t an estimated time for those roads re-opening.
Firefighters said they were concerned about embers from inside the park spreading to nearby homes because of the wind.
