Crash on Highway 101 in Soledad backs up traffic Wednesday morning

A pickup truck crashed into the back of a big rig on Highway 101 northbound near Arroyo Seco Road in Soledad Wednesday morning, according to CHP.

Officers said the driver of the pickup truck was towing a trailer and lost control while passing the big rig.

Lanes are blocked on the Salinas River Bridge. Officers said driver of pickup truck had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

Officers said there is major damage to pickup truck and trailer, minor damage to big rig. One lane is open on Highway 101 northbound and traffic still backed up for miles.

CHP expects to completely re-open Highway 101 at about 11:15am.
