UPDATE: Highway 1 re-opens after gravel truck overturns in Carmel Highlands
UPDATE 9/1/15 12:38 p.m.: Both lanes of Highway 1 are now open at Peter Pan Road after a cement truck turned a corner, dumping gravel and fuel onto the road Tuesday morning, according to Caltrans.
The closure lasted about three hours and 45 minutes.
UPDATE 9/1/15 11:10 a.m.: Emergency crews said a cement truck was carrying a heavy load on Highway 1 near Carmel Highlands Tuesday morning and overturned after turning a corner.
Officers at the scene said the driver was taken to the hospital with a shoulder injury. Fuel and gravel spilled onto the road and chunks of the highway are broken, according to crews.
CHP expects Highway 1 to re-open around 11:30 a.m.
PREVIOUS STORY: Highway 1 in Carmel Highlands is closed after a truck carrying gravel overturned Tuesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
CHP has issued a sigalert for the area near Peter Pan Road because the road is completely closed for clean up.
Crews do not have an estimated time Highway 1 will re-open.
