Homeless man tries to rob Santa Cruz Bank, ends up surrendering to police

A homeless man is accused of trying to rob a bank in Santa Cruz Monday afternoon, according to police.

Officers said Donald Brewster, 62, walked into the Wells Fargo Bank at 74 River St. and threatened an employee. Brewster is accused of telling the employee he was robbing the bank and almost got away with cash.

Police said a bank security guard approached Brewster and ordered him to sit down. Brewster complied and sat down in a lobby chair until police arrived. Police said no one was hurt and Brewster did not have a weapon.

Brewster was arrested and taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail.
