Hot temperatures predicted through Thursday along Central Coast
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement of high temperatures in the upper 80’s along the coast and inland areas with highs nearing 100 degrees.
The Monterey County Health Department is warning people that being in hot temperatures for even short periods can cause health problems.
Dr. Edward Moreno, a health officer at the county’s health department, advises people to “drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, use sunscreen of at least a SPF of 15 and never leave any person or pet in a closed, parked vehicle.”
Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn, and drug and alcohol use can make it harder for the body to stay cool. The health department said to keep an eye on people with these conditions and to make sure elderly people are prepared for warm weather.
Individuals should get medical attention if they or a family member have symptoms of heat exhaustion or stroke such as dizziness, nausea, headaches, fainting or confusion while in the sun or after being out in the heat, according to health department officials.
