Local company teams up with big name brand to offer grocery delivery

A Central Coast company is teaming up with a big name brand to offer grocery delivery services.

Amazon Fresh, Instacart, Peapod, all leaders in the fast growing business of grocery delivery services. Front Door Farms in Gonzales is hoping to see its share of green. It has partnered with online retailer Overstock.com and in the last six weeks, has been delivering fresh produce on the West Coast. All you do is log onto Overstock.com or the Front Door Farms site, place your order and wait.

“It’s the freshest of our product,” Dan McDonnal with Front Door Farms said. “We are in the heart of the Salad Bowl, right here in the Salinas Valley and we can get our stuff harvested in the field that morning, brought in here cooled, packed, ready to ship to ups that afternoon. I can’t see how anyone can get any fresher than that.”

The service is picking up steam with about 35 orders a day, and the company is looking to expand its stock.

“We do procure products from Fresno, Bakersfield, even Washington apples and things like that,” McDonnal said. “But everything is basically West Coast based to help try to keep it as fresh as possible.”

Front Door Farms wants to keep it as environmentally friendly as possible.

“We use recyclable packaging,” McDonnal said. “We don’t use Styrofoam in our shipping containers. We try to be as good a citizens as we can for the area we live in.”

Like many companies doing business in eco-conscious California, it’s promoting that it’s not just about profit, but people and the planet.

“We try to be as good a citizens as we can for the area we live in,” McDonnal said.

As for prices, they’re competitive. Front Door Farms checks in with other businesses to make sure they offer comparable pricing to their customers.
