Join the KION Weather Spotter Team!

As a Storm Ready Certified weather team, NewsChannel 5’s meteorologists want you to know what’s coming and what it means for you. We know you can usually expect nice weather, but there are still many challenges when forecasting for the Central Coast. One of the biggest challenges is a lack of observation sites throughout our many microclimates.

The best way to overcome this obstacle is to rely on our community – people like you – to provide valuable observations and assist our weather team when the weather turns active.

If you have a passion for Central Coast weather and an eye on the sky, let us know! As a KION Weather Spotter, your responsibility will be to send storm reports in real time.

Is it raining in your neighborhood? Tell us! How much rain is in your gauge? Let us know! Did you capture it on camera or video? Send it to us. Whether it’s fog, drizzle, rain, snow, hail, lightning, tornadoes, high winds, fires, or frost, the KION Weather Spotter Team wants to hear from you.

If you would like to become a KION Weather Spotter, here’s how:

Send us your contact information via email to weather@kionrightnow.com. In the email, please include your name, address, neighborhood name (if applicable), phone number, and email with an optional picture of yourself.

Your contact information will be kept confidential and not shared publicly. In the event of extreme weather on the Central Coast, our meteorologists may contact you for storm reports in your area. Any storm reports or weather photos received may be used for on-air and online purposes.
