Water rates could increase in Salinas by 2017

Water rates in Salinas could be going up in 2017 as California Water Service plans to push a rate hike to generate money for some infrastructure improvements.

The agency said those improvements would include replacing more than 30,000 feet of aging water mains.

If Cal Water gets approval from the California Public Utilities Commission, a typical homeowner will see a nearly $16 fee increase in their monthly bill starting in 2017.

Another $3 increase would happen in 2018 and 2019, according to Cal Water.
