UPDATE: Brush fire contained in Aromas Monday afternoon
UPDATE 7/20/15 3:23 p.m.: CAL FIRE said the Betabel Fire threatened about six homes near Highway 101 and Highway 156 Monday afternoon, but crews were able to contain the flames to protect those homes.
CAL FIRE said it sent two air tankers, a helicopter, five engines and a hand crew for this incident. Crews said dry brush, the heat and the wind all caused the fire to spread quickly.
Firefighters aren’t sure how it started but will continue to investigate the cause. One lane of Highway 101 is still closed.
UPDATE 7/20/15 3:07 p.m.: CAL FIRE reports the Betabel Fire is 100 percent contained to 25 acres by about 3:00 p.m.
Crews will remain on hand to monitor hot spots.
PREVIOUS STORY: Fire crews are battling a 25-acre brush fire near Highway 101 and Highway 156 Monday afternoon, according to CAL FIRE.
Firefighters report the Betabel Fire is in Aromas.
California Highway Patrol said one lane on Highway 101 northbound at Highway 156 will be closed from about 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. while crews work to contain the fire.
