3 mountain lion sightings reported in the same week in Gilroy

Residents in Gilroy have reported three mountain lion sightings this week. Authorities believe the cat is presumed to be the same animal reported in all three incidents.

The latest sighting was reported Thursday by a man who spotted the cat while walking his dog near Tea Tree Way and Mimosa Court.

The man reported the mountain lion was only 5 feet away after a jumped from a tree. The cat briefly followed him and eventually walked away.

Mountain lion sightings were also reported on Monday and Wednesday, both near the 9200 block of Mahogany Court, police said.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife is working with the police department to ensure the safety of the public.
