VW bus catches on fire in Soledad, driver loses everything

A traveler from the Santa Barbara area headed north on Highway 101 to Oregon in a Volkswagen Bus, pulled over when he smelled smoke in Soledad, according to California Highway Patrol.

Officers said the bus caught on fire and the driver escaped without injury.

Both lanes of Highway 101 north were closed as CAL FIRE crews worked to put the fire out.

Traffic was diverted to the center shoulder but both lanes were open soon after.

Officers said the bus is a total loss and the driver lost all of his possessions inside.
