Fire hydrant crash prompts detour in Salinas Wednesday

UPDATE 7/15/15 12:00 p.m.: Salinas Police said Boronda is back open after crews were able to clear the crash.

UPDATE 7/15/15 11:42 a.m.: Salinas Police said a crash involving two cars on Boronda and El Dorado was a hit and run.

Officers said the driver of a blue Honda Accord veered off the road and hit another car, then hit a fire hydrant.

No one was injured in the crash.

PREVIOUS STORY: A car crash involving a fire hydrant is sending thousands of gallons of water in the street at E. Boronda Dr. and El Dorado Dr. in Salinas, according to police.

Officers said they are investigating the crash. Traffic is being diverted to McKinnon St.

California Water has been called out to the scene to repair the leaking water.
