A series of spot fires ignite along Highway 101 near Salinas
UPDATE 7/2/15 3:04p.m.: Fire crews say the first fire one was reported 2:10p.m. at Camphora Gloria Rd.
Without knowing the exact cause, crews think a car traveling northbound on 101 may have started the chain of fires.
All fires have now been contained south of Spence Road.
Monterey County Regional Fire, CAL FIRE, Gonzales Fire, and Salinas Fire are all responding.
PREVIOUS STORY: Fire crews are responding to a series of spot fires along Highway 101 that have sparked one right after another in the brush on the side of the highway.
The first reports came in just after 2:00p.m. the Gonzales exit on northbound 101. A series of reports followed each about five minutes apart from Spence Road as far north as the Sala exit, the most northern part of Salinas.
Fire crews are responding to each of these fires as CHP is doing traffic control. No reports of a specific car or person that may be causing the fire has been called in.
