New plans for fireworks in King City
Preparations are underway for 4th of July celebrations across the Central Coast. In King City, there’s been a lot of confusion about what’s happening, but there’s actually a lot planned.
Typically, the 4th of July “day festival” is held at San Lorenzo Park, and hosted by the Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum. The city said the organization decided it was just too expensive this year. So, the King City Chamber of Commerce jumped in.
“Another way to bring revenue into the city, to keep everyone local, and keep everyone safe,” Cindi Mora with the King City Chamber of Commerce said.
Families said they’re thankful, because 4th of July events have been canceled before.
“I think it’s a good thing for the city because it brings people together and reminds people about why this day is so important,” Antonio Reyes said.
The day will start with a parade beginning on the 900 block of Broadway St. at 10:30 a.m. The parade will march along Vanderhurst, and end in the King City Park, where there will be food, music and games.
And the annual fireworks show at night, also hosted by the chamber, will go on as planned at the Salinas Valley Fair Arena for $1 a person.
The chamber is still trying to raise the money to cover the costs, but either way, the show will go on. The chamber is about a few thousand dollars short. But with safe and sane fireworks going on sale on the June 27th, the chamber hopes those proceeds will make up the difference. People can also donate by calling the chamber, or following them on social media.
