Seaside business catches fire, fear of explosion
UPDATED 6/15/15 5:01p.m.: Seaside Fire says an electrical meter caught fire; crews say it was put out by some residents with a watering hose, which they do not recommended.
PG&E crews at the scene said the gas meter at the building had an electrical charge, posing the threat of an explosion.
Crews evacuated several people inside the business, “You know this is an old building, old wires and some sort of electrical failure. The power pole behind me does have a portion of the electrical wire that’s snapped,” said Battalion Chief Paul Blaha.
Power was out for two buildings on Palm Ave. for several hours.
6/15/15 4:32p.m.: Seaside fire crews responded just after 3:00p.m. to reports of a fire at a silk screening business on Hillsdale St. and Palm Ave.
The business was evacuated and the fire was put out, however a gas line became charged by electrical lines. This led to a possibility of an explosion so crews again secured the area.
Power may still be out to lose residents and businesses on Palm Ave.
