Local pro dirt bike racer returns to Salinas
Flat track racing continues Sunday at the Salinas Sports Complex, and one of the local dirt bike competitors said it was nice to be racing at home.
Salinas native, and high school student Andrew Luker started racing at two-years-old, and competing at five.
He went pro last year, and is currently in the middle of a national competition with 16 stops all over the U.S.
The first stop was in Florida, where he took the lead. Right now, he’s in fifth place overall.
“Community support is the main thing that keeps me going,” Luker said. “It helps me get through whenever I do badly. If I’m kind of down on myself. I know I’ve got my community support. “
He started his pro-journey without any sponsors, but picked one up along the way.
On Monday, he’ll head to Maryland. The final stop is in Las Vegas in November.
