UPDATE: Watsonville teen arrested in robbery and attempted carjacking Wednesday

UPDATE 6/10/2015: Santa Cruz deputies said a man was arrested Wednesday after reports of an armed robbery and later a n attempted carjacking by a person with the same description.

Detectives said Gerardo Patricio, 18, of Watsonville, was arrested as he tried to escape the area near Sunny Cove.

D eputies say Patricio stolean iPhone from the first victim at gunpoint.

The Sheriff’s Office searched the area and was able to recover a gun with help from a resident who allowed deputies to search her property.

UPDATE 6/10/2015 12:29 p.m.: The Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office said its asking for witnesses to report more information seen during a suspect search early Wednesday morning.

Deputies said they have a person detained, matching the description of a suspect involved in an armed robbery and carjacking attempt. But they haven’t formally charged the man because detectives are still trying to figure out if they have the right person.

Deputies said around 7:49 a.m., a victim reported a man tried to rob him using a gun near Sunny Cove. Then shortly after, another victim said a man, with a similar description, tried to steal their car.

Deputies said the man detained was seen by a Sheriff’s Office detective near KSCO Radio. They believe the man may have changed clothes and discarded the gun. Deputies said the suspect was originally reported to have been wearing blue jeans, a grey hooded sweatshirt and shoes.

Santa Cruz Police, Capitola Police, California Highway Patrol and State Parks helped the Sheriff’s Office with the search for the suspect.

Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Office.

The search is happening near Moran Lake at East Cliff Dr. and 26th St.

A person has been detained but its unclear if that person is the suspect yet.
