Heated debate during Salinas cannabis forum
On Monday, members of the Salinas community discussed the pros and cons of having medicinal marijuana more available in the city.
The free event was held at the Salinas First United Methodist Church. It was open to the public and dozens of people showed up to hear a panel discussion from those for and against legalization, regulation and taxing of pot products.
“The city is following closely state legislation that will create a pathway for legal and regulated medicinal marijuana and the city’s got to take a position on what it is we’re going to allow,” councilman Steve McShane said.
The event also featured a brownie cook-off. McShane said he doesn’t have a solidified stance on the topic. McShane said Salinas will make a decision by the end of the year.
