UPDATE: Roads back open after train hits car on tracks
UPDATE 6/5/15 9:51a.m.: CHP officers say the roadway is back open after a car was hit by a Union Pacific train around 9:10p.m.
It happened on Masten Avenue just east of Monterey Road when officers say a 25-year-old woman from Gilroy drove too far on to the train tracks and stopped.
Officers say when the railroad crossing arms came down behind her, she tried to back up off the tracks, but didn’t make it in time.
The train hit the front of Honda Civic causing moderate injuries for the woman, she taken to a Bay Area hospital.
Union Pacific and the CHP will investigate.
This is the same intersection where a person was killed after a train hit a car on the tracks in January. CHP officers says there is nothing wrong with the intersection, both incidents involved very different circumstances.
6/4/15 10:29a.m.: A car was hit by a train Thursday night at Monterey Road and Masten Avenue in Gilroy according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver reportedly got out of the vehicle safely. CHP issued a Sig-Alert for Monterey Rd. Officers have put up hard closures at Masten Ave. and Manna Way and are detouring traffic.
The CHP website says Union Pacific Railroad is responding to the scene.
