Warriors take Game 1 of the NBA Finals in overtime

Update: Golden State Warriors take Game 1 of the NBA finals, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 108 to 100 in overtime.

This marks the first time the Warriors are in the championship series since winning it back in 1975. The Cavs’ last trip to the finals was back in 2007 where they lost to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Warriors’ All-Star Klay Thompson was cleared to play Tuesday and will be in the starting lineup alongside NBA MVP Stephen Curry. Thompson suffered a concussion after taking a knee to the head in Game 5 of the conference finals against the Houston Rockets. Curry recently broke the NBA record for the most three-pointers scored in the postseason, and is averaging 29.2 points per game going into the finals.

The Cavs, lead by reigning MVP LeBron James, have lost only two games during the postseason. Three-time All-Star Kyrie Irving will rejoin the lineup coming off of a knee injury for Game 1.

Tip-off is at 6 p.m. in Oakland.
