Capitola Beach west of the jetty sees elevated levels of bacteria
Part of Capitola Beach is experiencing elevated levels of bacteria in the water near the west side of the jetty, according to the Santa Cruz County Environmental Health Department.
The department said samples were tested on Tuesday, indicating bacteria levels were higher than what is normally safe for human contact.
Swimming advisory signs were posted and the department said it plans to continue testing the water.
No other Santa Cruz County beaches are affected by the warning, health officials said.
The department said it wants remind the public that warnings are regularly issued for these locations: San Lorenzo River Mouth, Schwan Lake at Twin Lakes Beach, Soquel Creek at Capitola Beach, Moore Creek at Natural Bridges, Aptos creek at Rio Del Mar Beach and Porter Gulch at New Brighton Beach.
