Watsonville teens arrested for breaking into business multiple times

Watsonville Police said they’ve arrested two teenagers for allegedly breaking into the Speed of Lighting Towing Company yard.

It’s been a frustrating several months for the company. First, a disgruntled customer vandalized their storefront. Then, they were burglarized several times within the last two weeks.

Police said Alexis Chavez, 18, and a 17-year-old boy busted into the two yard several times over the last week. But this time, the two were caught on the company’s live-streaming surveillance.

Within minutes, officers were on scene, arresting the suspects. They were also found to be in possession of property from previous burglaries. Fortunately, no one was ever at the business during the burglaries.

“Well it is a big concern but the people who do this kind of thing aren’t normally for the most part violent type of people,” owner Rich Bays said.

Bays was so grateful to the Watsonville Police Department, he actually posted about it on Facebook.

“Watsonville PD is a very well run organization,” Bays said. “The chief has really got them doing what they should be doing protecting the community. They’re doing a really good job.”

Watsonville police hope they continue to get help from alert businesses like Speed of Light.

Chavez is facing several charges, including possessing stolen property and burglary. No word on the charges the juvenile may face.
