Two-alarm fire in Salinas forces evacuations overnight
UPDATE 6/1/15 3:09p.m.: Salinas fire crews say a garage, one car in the garage, three cars outside the garage, a shed and motor home were all on fire and the fire was spreading to the house when they arrived early Monday morning.
The fire happened just before 2:00a.m. A total of 8 engines, 2 ladder trucks, and 33 firefighters worked to stop the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
North Monterey County and Presidio Fire assisted Salinas Fire.
Fire fighters say it started in the garage, but they don’t know the cause yet.
They do believe it was unintentional.
No one was injured but a family of four were displaced.
PG&E was on scene and worked with first responders, saying eventually fire department stopped the gas leak at 3:33a.m.
6/1/15 3:48a.m.: The Salinas Fire Department is investigating an early morning structure fire at the end of Bolivar Street. The fire was reported around 2 a.m. Monday. Fire officials said it started when a car caught fire. It spread to the garage, the front of the house and to other cars in the area.
Firefighters say some wires were damaged and a gas main leaked, causing other houses nearby to be evacuated.
No one was injured. PG&E was called to stop the leak.
