Salinas City Council approves new rules of decorum for council members
Tuesday night Salinas City Council passed new rules of decorum for council members. According to Councilwoman Kimbley Craig, the council voted 5-2 to approve changes to the rules.
Changes include requiring council members to take part in ethics training. They must also disclose and file economic interests they may have and disclose campaign contribution paperwork.
There will also now be consequences for council members who don’t follow the rules. For example, they wouldn’t be able to represent the city in ceremonious events or be appointed to various boards and subcommittees.
Council members were looking to update the rules after several potential lawsuits and settlements involving the City Council.
