Officers across the Central Coast wear denim to stand against sexual assault
Law enforcement agencies across the Central Coast are allowing officers to wear blue jeans for the day in honor of sexual assault awareness.
The Gonzales Police Department said wearing denim is a symbol of protest against harmful attitudes about rape.
Officers said Denim Day was created following an overturned rape conviction in 1999 by the Italian Supreme Court which claimed it would have been impossible for the defendant to have raped the victim because the victim was wearing tight jeans at the time of the crime.
