UPDATE: Hazmat crews clear the scene in Live Oak

UPDATE 4:07 p.m.: Hazmat crews have cleared from the scene on Soquel Drive in Live Oak.

Crews said a new renter entered a storage unit and found stuff left behind from the old renter. That’s when the new renter reported getting light headed and didn’t know what the chemicals were.

Crews said the new renter was treated by medics. They believe the smell was from some kind of acid but are still investigating.

Crews said the old renter was cited for the environmental hazard.

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: Fire crews with Central Fire are working on a hazmat clean up on Soquel Drive in Live Oak Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters confirm there are hazardous materials inside the Public Storage building. Crews are trying to figure out how to safely get a closer look at the materials.

NewsChannel 5 has a crew on scene and we will update this story as the information becomes available.

About a dozen fire units and a paramedic are on scene. Crews said Public Storage has been evacuated and storage renters are not being allowed on the property.

Firefighters said they expect to be on scene for quite to clean up the materials.

PREVIOUS STORY: A possible hazmat clean up is underway in the 2300 block of Soquel Drive at the Public Storage facility, according to Santa Cruz County Emergency Communications.

More hazmat crews are being called out to the area and Central Fire is also working at the incident.

Employees the business are being evacuated. Right now, it is unclear what may have spilled.
