UPDATE 4/14/2015: Two Salinas brothers were sentenced to prison Tuesday for their involvement in several 2013 sexual assault cases, prosecutors said.
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said Omar Jacuinde, 23, was sentenced to 16 years in state prison after pleading guilty to four counts of sexual assault, adding two strikes to his criminal record.
Prosecutors said Fredi Jacuinde, 22, is sentenced to six years in prison for pleading guilty to one count of sexual assault, adding one strike to his record.
PREVIOUS STORY: On Monday, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said two Salinas men were sentenced to prison on sexual assault charges against multiple women in 2013.
Prosecutors said Jose Zavala and Juan Ramirez Espinoza and two co-defendants, Fredi Jacuinde and Omar Jaquinde.
Zavala was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for committing six acts of sexual assault. Espinoza was sentenced to three years in state prison for sexually assaulting one of the four women.
Prosecutors said two female victims were interviewed by police on December 15, 2013, after attending a party at Fredi Jacuinde’s home the night before.
The women said they attended the party with Zavala and Omar Jaquinde, where they both got extremely intoxicated.
Prosecutors said DNA evidence proved the women were repeatedly sexually assaulted by the Jaquinde brothers and Zavala while they were in and out of consciousness.
During the Salinas Police Department’s initial investigation, officers said they discovered a video on Zavala’s cellphone showing another victim. Officers located two more victims who prosecutors said were also assaulted that same weekend at the Jaquinde home.
Prosecutors said two of the women had been sexually assaulted by Zavala in a car on separate occasions in October 2013. In one case, investigators said the victim escaped the car, wearing only her panties after being sexually assaulted.
In a second case, investigators said a victim was helped by a Good Samaritan and who heard her scream including “stop” and “I don’t want to” coming from inside the car.
Both Jaquinde brothers will be sentenced April 14.
