UPDATE: Marina sexual assault suspect connected to Monterey summer camps, police say
UPDATE 4/14/15: A man arrested in Seattle for allegedly sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in Marina has ties to Monterey’s Recreation Division, according to police.
On Tuesday, officers said Lamare Cole, 23, worked as a part-time temporary seasonal employee for the city’s recreation department between 2008 and 2012.
Cole held positions at Whispering Pines Day Camp during summers in 2008 and 2009 and the Playground Program during summers in 2010 and 2011.
Police said Monterey Recreation runs background checks on all employees including part-time seasonal employees. They said Cole was initially hired when he was 16 after a background check.
The city said its not aware of any complaints on Cole while he was working with children. But as a precaution, the Monterey Police Department is asking parents or guardians of children who attended those camps to contact police with any information on inappropriate behavior by Cole.

Marina Police detectives traveled to Washington for Lamare Cole, 23, who police say assaulted the girl over a span of several years. Police were assisted by members of the Seattle Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Recovery Task Force.
Cole was arrested without incident. He’s been booked into the King County Jail while he awaits extradition back to Monterey County. He faces multiple child sex molestation charges when he returns.
Marina Police thanked the other agencies involved for their help in catching this wanted suspect.
