Dog walkers meet Watsonville Police K-9 Ellex

Police dogs are proving to be more than “man’s best friend” in Watsonville.

Watsonville dog owners had the opportunity to meet Office Ellex Saturday morning as part of the first ever Tails on Trails Community Dog Walk.

Organizers say dog owners can be the eyes and ears of the community while the K-9 can be the nosiest in the community.

Police Officer Mish Radich said “He is a great asset the police department. His best sense is his sense of smell, which is far superior to any human sense of smell. So that’s what we use him for, to sniff out suspects, basically, that are hiding.”

Ellex helped Friday as police searched for and later arrested four teenagers during an armed robbery.

As for Tails on Trails events, organizers plan to hold them once a month.
