UPDATE: “Mrs. Doubtfire” suspect on the run after Santa Cruz bank robbery, police say
UPDATE 4/7/2015: Santa Cruz police are searching for a man who was dressed as the movie character “Mrs. Doubtfire” during a bank robbery Friday afternoon.
Officers said the suspect robbed a U.S. Bank location at 110 Morrissey Boulevard around 3 p.m. and got away with an unknown amount of cash. Witnesses said the suspect demanded cash using a note and no weapon was seen.
Before the robbery, officers said the suspect was reportedly acting suspicious at a Rabobank at 3110 Mission Drive. Officers believe that the suspect might have been casing the bank.
The man disguised as “Mrs. Doubtfire” is described as 25 to 35 years old, weighing 160 to 170 pounds, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with dark skin, and wearing prescription glasses, a wavy blond wig, navy blue scrubs and a light purple long-sleeved undershirt.
UPDATE 4/3/15 5:29p.m.: Santa Cruz Police have re-opened the neighborhoods off Morrissey Blvd and Soquel Avenue Friday about 5:30p.m. Police did not find the bank robbery suspect and say the description is too vague to do any good.
4/3/15 4:03p.m.: Santa Cruz County dispatchers say law enforcement has set up a perimeter in the neighborhoods of Soquel Avenue and Morrissey Blvd after a bank was robbed Friday afternoon.
Tthe U.S. Bank on Morrissey Blvd was robbed at around 3:00p.m. and witnesses believe the suspect ran into the neighborhood nearby.
Santa Cruz Police officers, Santa Cruz County Sheriff deputies and K-9 units are canvassing the area, doing door-to-door and yard-to-yard searches.
The suspect did not show a weapon and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area around Soquel Ave, Morrissey Blvd, Melrose and Pacheco Avenues.
