Possible case of human trafficking out of Greenfield

A bizarre story out of Greenfield, where police are investigating a possible case of human trafficking. At the center of this case is a former Greenfield man who is trying to find his daughter and two nieces. However, police have a lot more questions about the case and not many answers.

Police say the man, we don’t know his name, moved from Greenfield to Mexico several months ago, leaving his daughter behind. Last week, he said he got a phone call from her saying she was in Fresno. She claimed his brother, her uncle, had sold her for $15,000. And it wasn’t just her, the man claims his eight and ten year old nieces were also sold. The daughter supposedly gave him a few addresses before their conversation ended. Obviously distraught, police say he came back to California to find her.

“We went to the church and contacted the man and he was pretty distraught and shaken up.” Greenfield Police Officer Daniel Sotello said. “He was crying. When we spoke to him, he was cooperative, saying ‘I need to talk to my daughter. Please find my daughter.'”

However, in later conversations with police, the man told them he didn’t need their help and that he was going to “take care of it on his own.” Now, they can’t get a hold of him and they don’t have any leads.

“Our main concern is if there are victims out there,” Officer Sotello said, “We want to try to find out where they are and if they’re ok. For all we know, this could really have happened or there’s some other things going on that we just don’t know. But until we find that out, we’re going to treat it as such.”

Police in Fresno checked out the addresses the man gave them. Nothing turned up. Greenfield police have also canvassed the addresses there and there are no leads from that either. Federal investigators are currently working the case as well.

There’s not much information on the two little girls. Police checked the Greenfield school system and there were no records of either of the girls going to school there.
