Haro sentence to 32 years for his role in homicide
24 year old Ivan Haro of Salinas, was sentenced by Judge Pamela Butler to serve 32 years and 4 months in prison for his role in the killing of 24-year-old Jorge Ramirez Medina.
On July 16, 2011, Medina’s girlfriend had a party at the house where Medina had been living on Tahoe Drive in Salinas. Later in the evening numerous gang members came to the party uninvited and refused to leave when requested.
Police say Haro, recognized the victim from school and believed that the victim belonged to a rival gang. Haro pointed the victim out to his fellow gang members. Haro and several others physically attacked the victim. The victim’s girlfriend broke up the attack and the victim retreated to a bedroom, but Haro and other gang members followed him.
One as yet unidentified gang member shot and killed the victim. Although numerous people had been present at the party, very few people ever came forward to talk to police and cooperate in the investigation.
At the time of the killing, Haro was on probation for a second degree burglary and active participation in a criminal street gang. He pled guilty to solicitation of murder, assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, as well as a charge of street gang recruitment.
The actual shooter in this case is still at large.
