King City cop faces jail time for gun conviction
Another King City police officer has been convicted in Monterey County on a gun charge. On Thursday, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said Jose Hernandez, 33, was found guilty of misdemeanor brandishing a firearm last October.
Officers said Hernandez overheard his ex-girlfriend being intimate with another man in a separate bedroom of the home she was leasing. Prosecutors said Hernandez stated he “couldn’t take it anymore,” and pushed the bedroom door open with a loaded, semi-automatic pistol in hand.
Investigators said they also found Hernandez interrogated the couple about their relationship. The male victim was frightened by Hernandez and claimed he stood nude next to the bed for 15 minutes, believing he might be shot if he moved.
Hernandez will be sentenced April 25, and faces a minimum 90 day jail sentence. Prosecutors said he will be prohibited from possessing a firearm for 10 years.
On Thursday, city manager Michael Powers confirmed Hernandez is still on paid administrative leave.
Last month, former King City Officer Jaime Andrade pleaded guilty to negligent storage of a firearm. Andrade has been terminated from the department.
