Deadly crash on Highway 1 south of Lucia

UPDATE 4/1/2015: California Highway Patrol said a 19-year-old woman from San Francisco died after losing control of her car on Highway 1 south of Lucia on Tuesday.

Officers said the 2002 Mazda sedan hit a steep rocky cliff embankment, causing the car to roll over, ejecting her from the car.

Investigators said she was not wearing a seatbelt and they aren’t sure whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

CHP said Highway 1 was closed for about two hours and the crash is still under investigation.

PREVIOUS STORY: California Highway Patrol reports officers are responding to a deadly crash south of Lucia Tuesday afternoon, according to online dispatch information.

Reports said a car may have gone over the edge of Highway 1, dropping several hundred feet.

Multiple agencies have been dispatched to help at the scene.
