Deadly crash on Highway 101 in Gilroy

California Highway Patrol said one person is dead after an early morning crash Tuesday on Highway 101 near Leavesley Road.

Officers said a car was reportedly seen on the right shoulder of the northbound side just north of the Leavesley Road exit after 6 a.m.

Investigators on scene said the car overturned, hit a tree and no other cars were involved.

Officers said the driver died at the scene and a passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They are investigating whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.

CHP is looking for information from any witnesses and are asking the public to call 408-848-2324 to report information to Officer Tritenbach or Officer Roberts.

They said family members have not been notified yet.
