Man dead and a second man injured in Salinas shooting

The Salinas Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another man injured Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired and a man down on the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue at 12:17 a.m., police said. Upon arrival officers found a 24-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a second victim was found hiding about thirty minutes later as officers were canvassing the area. Police said the 21-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Natividad Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Police said both victims are known gang members and believe the shooting is gang related. The police department is not releasing their names.
