Two suspects arrested after leading police on a chase in Morgan Hill

Morgan Hill police said Friday afternoon an officer used a license plate reader to locate a stolen car on W. Edmundson Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue.

The investigation into the stolen car turned into a chase when the driver reportedly accelerated east on Watsonville Road after the officer tried to follow the car, police said.

Officers reported the car was near Murphy Avenue and Maple Avenue when it caught on fire. They said suspects Tye Freitas, 29 and Stephanie Hamilton, 31, allegedly ran from the car as it began to burn.

Freitas was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to yield to a police officer, parole violation and two outstanding warrants. Hamilton was arrested for three outstanding narcotic warrants.

Both were booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
