State hospital to release convicted Seaside serial rapist
Soon a convicted serial rapist will be released from a state hospital into Monterey County. Now the is where will he stay?
Monterey County Spokesperson Maia Carol shared this information on Friday:
• On October 7, 2014, Monterey County Superior Court ordered the conditional release of Eldridge Lindsey Chaney Jr., a Sexually Violent Predator, from the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) Coalinga State Hospital in order to begin supervised outpatient treatment.
• Outpatient status is the final phase of the relapse prevention treatment program that DSH administers through the Conditional Release Program.
• Monterey County has been notified that the search for housing in Monterey County for Mr. Chaney Jr. by the State of California’s contractor, Liberty Healthcare Corporation, is in the preliminary stages.
• No location for placement of Mr. Chaney, Jr. in Monterey County has been finalized.
• Monterey County will be represented at a Superior Court hearing on March 4th which will preliminarily discuss potential future housing placement for Mr. Chaney, Jr. in Monterey County.
• The Department of State Hospitals is required to provide advance notification to the County when a location has been selected. The Monterey County Superior Court will then set a hearing for public comment within 30 days, which will allow the public to comment on the proposed placement location.
